This works really well and my Unifi Doorbell can make ring sounds to HomePod minis in low latency. The HA core version has full support for the newly release EA UP Doorlock. If you have a Dream machine or a Cloud Key/UNVR on the same VLAN, the UniFi Protect integration will automatically be discovered and prompted for setup. UniFi Protect
UniFi Protect can be auto-discovered by Home Assistant. If an instance was found, it will be shown as “Discovered”, which you can select to set it up right away. Using Early Access versions will likely cause your UniFi Protect integration to break unexpectedly. Safety starts with understanding how developers collect and share your data. Data privacy and security practices may vary based on your use, region, and age. The developer provided this information and may update it over time.
Now that you have UniFi controller integration account setup, you are ready to install the integration. Home Assistant needs to access UniFi Protect controller. For the security reason, you want create a dedicated user account for home automation device integration.
Software Support
For Raspberry Pi installation, it is relatively straight forward. But after the latest update of “Unifi protect” the binary sensor of the doorsensor is not visible anymore in Home assistant. As part of the integration, we provide a couple of blueprints that you can use or extend to automate stuff. If nothing happens, download GitHub Desktop and try again. This commit does not belong to any branch on this repository, and may belong to a fork outside of the repository. The G3 also does not have a speaker so there is no chance of two-way communication, though they do have a microphone so you can record what’s going on with the video.
With that said many new homes get Ubiquiti installs now and if I was in the product team at Ubiquiti I would seriously be looking at what I could do to better serve that market. Ubiquiti has two video solutions, Unfi Video that is slowly being replaced and UniFi Protect. I am using the UniFi Protect offering as it is integrated with the CloudKey Gen 2 Plus which I am using to manage my wireless. The first of which is that they did not support POE, this meant when we set them up we had to buy USB to POE adapters and find ways to hide the long and bulky USB power cable they came with.
Special UniFi Protect Services
Enable processing of all Websocket events from UniFi Protect. This enables realtime updates for many sensors that are disabled by default. If this is disabled, those sensors will only update once every 15 minutes.
This includes the G4 Doorbell, G4 Bullet, G4 Pro and G4 Instant. Select the camera you want to ensure can stream in UniFi Protect. You can replace 2.0.0~beta.5 with whatever version of UniFi Protect you want to downgrade to. Any dashes in the version (-), replace with tilde (~). In the event you accidentally upgrade to an Early Access version of UniFi Protect you can downgrade to a stable version by either restoring a backup or by manually downgrading your UniFi Protect.
Migration to HA Core Version Steps

Humidity - A humidity sensor will be available if the mount type is not set to “Leak” and the humidity sensor is enabled. Light - A light entity will be added for each floodlight device. The light entity will let you control turning on or off your light as well as adjust the brightness of your floodlight. All known UniFi Protect devices should be supported. Each UniFi Protect device will get a variety of entities added for each of the different entity platforms.
I believe setting up Home Assistant on a Pi is the best and easiest way to get started. That said, you can also run in a Docker Container, on a Synology or other NAS, or just on Windows or Mac in the background. Optionally, you can pay Nabu Casa $5 for remote network access via transparent forwarding.
I recently made the switch from Google WIFI and NEST Cameras to Ubiquiti Unfi and Protect. A few things motivated these changes and I wanted to talk about them in this blog post. Unlike with many other things, playing audio to your speakers requires your Home Assistant to be able to reach your camera directly. You can enable debug logging and it will output the full FFmpeg command that will be run and the output from FFmpeg to help you troubleshoot why audio is not playing to the device. These URLs work great when trying to send notifications.
Now this has added UniFi Protect to your official integration search list. This is where dedicated home automation hub like HA plays a role. HA acts as home automation controller/brain unit and ties otherwise completely independent products from different venders to integrates together and allows to make an automation. However, in my case we have other areas in home with Sonos speakers and not able to hear doorbell ring in those area. So the real automation I like to do is UniFi Protect Doorbell push to announce “someone is at the door” on all my Sonos speakers throughout home.
Use to dynamically set the message on a Doorbell LCD screen. This service should only be used to set dynamic messages (i.e. setting the current outdoor temperature on your Doorbell). Static messages should still be set using the Select entity and can be added/removed using the add_doorbell_text/remove_doorbell_text services. UniFi Protect products are powerful with motion detection, local storage and cloud independent operation. There are many reasons to choose UniFi Protect platform for home surveillance camera system. However, they do not support Alexa or Google Assistant voice control. Should we wait and keep hoping someday Ubiquiti will add some of above features? We can use Home Automation platform/system like Home Assistant to make UniFi Protect devices into not just real smart home device, but a genius one.
Here are things I can do with these devices in my home setup by integrating with Homekit. The Ubiquiti cameras I chose are the G3, mainly because they were the cheapest of the set and seemed approximately comparable to the NEST Cameras they were replacing. This was important as I intended to sell my NEST cameras to cover the cost of the change. Finally, we have an outbuilding that is currently using our guest network but since it is on a Guest Network it can not do any IOT style networking where one device talks to another.
